Why BMW care who owns an 18yo car is beyond me. Question is: How do I bypass the immobiliser? My mechanic is saying the ECU needs removing and sending off to be reprogrammed and at ridiculous cost. Please help or the car really will have to be scrapped! TheEnd 15, posts months. You've got a few options, first is to check the ring antenna around the barrel, make sure it is plugged in, and make sure the little box it plugs into is also plugged in.

Make sure you haven't knocked it etc. If you have swapped keys, opened keys etc, make sure you still have the chip inside the key. Next option, get the EWS fixed. You can do what you like with the ECU after, but the main thing is an EWS box with matching chips, there's two in that pic. It's a worthwhile lead for decent level diagnostics.

It'll take a bit of setting up, but it'll remove the EWS. The last option is to remove the EWS in the ECU, but there's a very good chance your ECU is going to be too old to reprogram, meaning you'd need to buy a newer ecu to delete it.Remember Me?

BMW Models. Immobilizer Problem. Results 1 to 2 of 2. Thread: Immobilizer Problem. Thread Tools Show Printable Version. Immobilizer Problem This is spooky! Saw a post that not only described how my battery came to be 'dead', but also all the things I tried in troubleshooting my NO START problem: Increasingly from onwards ECUs are immobilised, preventing a standard test and replacement from your local motor factor.

Our research has given us a large database of solutions to this problem, and there are very few things that we cannot help with. Car ran fine for weeks. Left my key in the run position overnight. Next day wouldn't start not even a solenoid click.

Tried two different 'spare' keys - same thing. Charged battery in trunk - after charge it was sitting at Re-initialized the transmitter with my remote key. When done, doors automatically locked and unlocked as book says they will, indicating that the re-initialization was successful.

When I turn the key to the Run position all the dashboard lights come on as usual, windows can be rolled up and down. Car can be remotely locked and unlocked. Trunk can be remotely opened. Removed cables from both battery terminals - waited min - reconnected - No help. Checked all fuses under hood. Checked what I think is the fusible link near battery in trunk?

There was 1 large orange fuse rated at 40A - 32V - located near firewall next to fuse box where the relays sit - that was blown. Have no idea as to what this fuse protects. Will pick up a replacement tomorrow. Checked voltage at thick wire running to center of solenoid - Tried jumping the solenoid with a wire from center post to the solenoid post nearest starter motor.

Sounds like bad starter? Why didn't I get even a click out of the solenoid under any circumstances? Something to do with EWS? Don't know where to go from here to avoid a several hundred dollar bill for towing to dealer and having them hook it up to their computer? Any thoughts? Is there a way to reset the immobilizer in my driveway? Do you think that could be the problem?

Thought nothing of it as I rushed out and closed it as soon as I realised, but upon trying to open my car to drive my sister in to town, I found I couldn't. I realised the clock had reset so I straight away assumed the battery has reset itself.

What I need to know is, how do I go about calibrating the key to the car again? Please help, in desperate need of the car tomorrow for work, and then to drive to Essex! Have you checked the battery connections in the boot? If you had the boot open for a long time when working on the car yesterday the interior light in the boot is a battery killer, maybe it just need charging or starting of a set of jump leads?

Airforce texan lss

The boot wasn't left open yesterday, only the bonnet. My first port of call was to check the battery, but the boots deadlocked and I can't get in. I tried jump starting it using the terminals under the bonnet, but it shows no life at all after the ignition turns on, no crank at all. If anyone has this problem, exhaust all your options until your head clicks and you think "I wonder if the simple idea of putting the key in the ignition and leaving it for a while will recalibrate the coding to the car?

It works fine, but then as soon as you lock the car using the key fob you start the whole ordeal over again. Don't think I can stand owning a car I have to leave the key in the ignition for 10mins for every time I want to take it out, so a call to BMW it will have to be! Before I shell out any money I will disconnect the negative battery terminal and leave that for 15mins to see if it resets, since I can open the boot after the key codes itself!

The clocks only reset themselves when disconnected from battery power. On the basis that most car faults are something simple rather than complicated - I would put the battery under the spotlight. As Brian said, a car with an immobiliser issue will normally still turn over. The fact that nothing happened leads one to suspect either the battery or starting motor - but the latter would not mess up your clock and deadlocking around the car.

Modern batteries are strange beasts - they don't slowly fade away like the old days - they suddenly fail or start acting unreliably with no warning.

I had a fairly new battery "play up" on my daily driver and it affected all sorts of things including the central locking. There is no recalibration that takes place - the EWS either recognises the key or it doesn't.

Also, the central locking and deadlocking of the boot has absolutely nothing to do with the immobiliser system - they are completely separate. We are a team of ASE certified mechanics that have created this guide for you to help save you money and get you back on the road. If the security light is blinking the immobilizer system is enabled and will not allow the car to start. Most cars today have a security system built into the electrical system BCM - Body control module to deter from theft.

The problem is it can sometimes stop the person that owns the car from starting the engine as well. These anti-theft systems can sometimes get the operational sequence out of sync which makes the system think the car is getting stolen epically after a repair job. This can sometimes happen when there is no one in the car but the window is rolled down while the car is locked.

Someone will reach their hand inside and unlock any of the doors. Another common way for the system becoming triggered is to simply disconnect the battery to install a new unit or if the battery is allowed to go dead and then jump started.

These can sometimes cause an electrical surge triggering the immobilizer system. Car alarms are designed to prevent burglary of the car and warn the owner if a theft attempt is being made. Usually a car alarm will output a high pitched sound when the system is triggered by vibration, closed or opened trigger switches or sensing of small and fast changes in battery voltage.

Car alarms can also monitor sensors like infrared, microwave, ultrasound or tilting of the vehicle in the case of unauthorized towing. Some cars have alarm systems which send out SOS signals to a cell phone number in case of breakdown or theft.

How to Reset a Security System

Alarm systems are also incorporated within a navigation system to increase the security of the car. The navigation system will send out a ping signal so the car can be received.

The security system can also be used to locate the car in large parking lots by using the conformation chirp on the remote fob. Sometimes a car alarm can give out a false alarm when it feels vibrations of thunder or a passing truck.

Sensors need to be adjusted properly otherwise it can trigger the device even when a person accidentally touches the automobile as well. For people who want added security for their cars can have a police tracking system installed with the help of services like On Star. These systems come with an additional cost which is to be paid on a regular basis. Security systems utilize a remote controller key fob so a user can disable the alarm from a distance.

The remote control feature is very convenient if the system is triggered by a false alarm. A key fob can integrate a variety of functions such as a LCD screen option which can project the image of a part of a vehicle that is under threat by a thief is one example.

Results 1 to 6 of 6. Thread: Car won't start: Immobiliser? Thread Tools Show Printable Version. Okay, so I've looked at some previous threads regarding this and it's hard to narrow it down entirely, maybe someone can help.

Brief: Car had no problems, drove to work, left it for 9 hours, came outside, turn the key and get nothing. No sound, no lights, the key doesn't get much resistance in the ignition and it doesn't retract when you hold it in the "start" position. Try to jump start it, nothing.

Replace the battery, nothing. After replacing the battery, the flashing anti-theft light on the radio no longer flashes.

The only things that work on the car are the hazard lights, the running lights not the headlights thoughthe date and time show up, the seat moves around, the locks work and the window goes down a centimeter when I open the door.

Sounds like the immobiliser, but I'm not feeling very optimistic about it because I can probably fix that problem. Could it be the DME or the ignition switch?

The car has been relatively dry the past couple days, it did rain a small amount the three days previous but I don't see why the DME would act up now, of all times, regarding water exposure.

Anyone know how to specifically bypass the immobiliser?

I am not very worried about my car being stolen, at this point, if I can just get rid of this problem. Detailed: I have a 94 is. About 2 months ago I had the failing auto transmission swapped out for a manual. That worked fine for a while, is still functioning, don't think the transmission is related to this problem. A week ago I replaced the valve cover gasket and spark plugs. Car ran fine for the past week until now. I will also mention that I had the door replaced not the door panel though with a door from an M3 and it doesn't exactly fit great, but I've had the car for over a year, hasn't caused any chronic problems.

I drive the car to work this morning, absolutely no problems starting, running, etc. Nine hours later I get in, doesn't do anything. The red light is still blinking on the stereo.

I press the mode button on the stereo and it beeps at me for 5 minutes. I do that a few times. Try to get a jump, nothing at all. Fiddle with the locks a little bit because this has happened one time about 9 months ago where I turn the key and I get next to no resistance and the car won't start.

That time I left the car, locked it, came back to it a few minutes later and it started right up. This time, nothing. So I figure no matter what I need to replace the battery first. I replace the battery with no results, but now the anti-theft light on my radio is no longer blinking.

The only thing that works on the car is the hazard lights, door locks, window slides down a tad when you open the door, dash backlight works along with running lights but not the headlights. Here's my plan of action: Check to see if I can reset the immobiliser.

I read two ways of doing this, turning the key to the right twice and then to the left in the door and I also read turning the key to the right, holding it, and swiftly turning it to the left.

I am trying to get my college age son's car back on the road It has always had a problem with the spinning key thing and last month the key came out and the car kept running The key was gutted so doubt it was the original to begin with, but worked for 3 years anyway I have search all over and decided since there was bad bearings in the column also that sounded like spring wire scraping when you turned the wheel to just replace the entire column and with it a new key Now I am trying to get it running again Its the code and EWS I need bypassed I just want my son to be able to use the car again I have jumped 1 and 3 in EWS View Profile View Forum Posts.

The problem with your igintion switch turning isnt the tumbler its the shaft that connects the tumbler to the switch. What year is the car? Your EWS may need a chipped key to get it to run. The key you have could be toast.
