The boot wasn't left open yesterday, only the bonnet. My first port of call was to check the battery, but the boots deadlocked and I can't get in. I tried jump starting it using the terminals under the bonnet, but it shows no life at all after the ignition turns on, no crank at all. I am not very worried about my car being stolen, at this point, if I can just get rid of this problem. Detailed: I have a 94 is. About 2 months ago I had the failing auto transmission swapped out for a manual. That worked fine for a while, is still functioning, don't think the transmission is related to this problem. A week ago I replaced the valve cover gasket and spark plugs. Car ran fine for the past week until now. I will also mention that I had the door replaced not the door panel though with a door from an M3 and it doesn't exactly fit great, but I've had the car for over a year, hasn't caused any chronic problems.

I drive the car to work this morning, absolutely no problems starting, running, etc. Nine hours later I get in, doesn't do anything. The red light is still blinking on the stereo.

I press the mode button on the stereo and it beeps at me for 5 minutes. I do that a few times. Try to get a jump, nothing at all. Fiddle with the locks a little bit because this has happened one time about 9 months ago where I turn the key and I get next to no resistance and the car won't start.

That time I left the car, locked it, came back to it a few minutes later and it started right up. This time, nothing. So I figure no matter what I need to replace the battery first. I replace the battery with no results, but now the anti-theft light on my radio is no longer blinking.

The problem with your igintion switch turning isnt the tumbler its the shaft that connects the tumbler to the switch. What year is the car? Your EWS may need a chipped key to get it to run. The key you have could be toast.
